Mississauga's Osprey Marsh

Osprey Marsh, located in the Lisgar area of Mississauga near Ninth Line and Britannia, is an organization of natural creeks, ponds and marshes which is joined with man-made waterways and catchments to facilitate a comprehensive network of water management that provides much needed recreational and green space to an ever growing urban / suburban environment. It has been designed to manage and relieve water levels in the advent of severe weather.

Located in what was originally called the Catholic Swamp due to the land's bog and marsh characteristics, Osprey Marsh is now home to much flora and fauna. Beautiful trees and bushes surround the marsh which is home to beavers, ducks, geese, herons, and more. One can even see an occasional coyote now and then late at night. In the spring, a late night walk will find magical meadows full of fireflies. 

I've lived in this area for over 20 years and watched the marsh grow from a young manmade entity, into a beautiful, natural oasis. The only sign that it's manmade now are the city trucks parked along the trail when there is a heavy downpour anticipated, so they can manage the water levels. My neighbours and I will continue to enjoy this space for many years to come.
